Ascent Trip Report

Parked at Le Boqueron National Park ($5 for 2 foreigners plus car) just below crater rim, path along rim, soon passing a sign warning we continue at our own risk (possible security issues: we're subsequently advised, if anyone asks for a dollar, give them one). A few locals carrying big loads of vegetation but no one threatening. We cross two summits before reaching a third on the west rim which is the highest, at least 20m higher than the summit on the east side, according to my hand level. The two passed enroute (southwest rim) are probably 5-10m lower, sighting across to the same comms tower for reference. View north to Santa Ana our first El Salvador peak from 3 days ago.

We make the short drive back to Ri-Cars to return our rental car. 2 El Salvador ultras in a 2 day $50 rental is pretty good; meanwhile Riccardo has bought our Transporte del Sol coach tickets to Nicaragua (adding a small oncost) and booked us into the smart Zona Hostal and drives us round there in person. He's an absolute gem -
