Ascent Trip Report

Sunday-Monday. I sought to find somewhere in the Sawatch Range where I could climb three mountains in one trip. I decided to try Taylor Mtn, Mt. Aetna and unnamed 13147'.
I drove down to Poncha Springs and scouted out my "trailhead" on the North Fork South Arkansas R. Then I went back to Poncha Springs to look around and spend the night. I discovered on E. US 50, east side of Poncha Springs, a Texaco Truch Stop that would have helped on so many return trips from Gunnison. It rained overnight and the next morning I found half-inch of snow on the mountains. I crossed the North Fork on a log and bushwhacked my way up into Hunkydory Gulch. Once up to it I headed left, gained the east ridge of Taylor Mtn near the side with Missouri Hill. I climbed Taylor Mtn, 13651 ft., and Mt. Aetna, 13745 ft. I met another person going the other way near the top of Mt. Aetna.
Both mountains had interesting tops. There was a strong constant cold wind from the southwest. I continued west until I could drop down to North Fork Reservoir/Campground, but decided to skip ascending unnamed 13147: too far, too cold and it doesn't descend well to the north.
