Ascent Trip Report

Sept 2 1990 Sunday. I got a late 10:00 am start. Along the way I wandered off the main highway and went over Old Monarch and Black Sage passes. I got to the trailhead at Sherman, 9678 ft., and started up the trail at 6:20 pm with my 30 lb backpack. I set up my tent at 11,500 ft at 8:00 pm. I am amazed that I managed 1800 ft in 1 hour 40 minutes.
Sept 3 1990 Monday. I climbed up Half Peak, 13841 ft. My route required the ascent of a short cliff. I came down 1 gully further south, down a steep couloir/chimney. I ripped the bottom out of my pants. I started the traverse over to (unnamed) 13674 but after the 400 ft elevation loss I continued down to camp.
