Ascent of San Gorgonio Mountain in 1982-11
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||San Gorgonio Mountain|
| Elevation:||11499 ft / 3504 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked this mountain many years ago when I lived in Riverside. I had climbed Mt. San Jacinto recently and enjoyed it so much that I decided to attempt Mt. San Gorgonio on Veterans Day (I had a day off from work). My wife & kids were visiting her folks in San Jose so I thought it would be a good day for a hike. When I got to the trail head the Ranger station was closed (Federal holiday!). I had no map, so I studied the posted map at the Ranger station and decided to hike it. Fortunately, the trail was well marked and I had no problem making it to the summit. Only saw 1 hiker coming down as I was heading up and saw 2 other hikers at the summit. I trekked through snow when I got above the treeline and approached the summit. The trek up and down was fairly easy, but I was nearly 30 years younger then and it doesn't come so easy anymore.
