Ascent Trip Report

We started out from the Timpooneke trailhead (the one from the North) about a half hour before sunrise. The trail and conditions were near ideal - because of the mountain to the east, we were in shade until it was cool enough for us to appreciate the sun. Because of the length, the trail is very gradual (until the last half mile or so). Perhaps most noteworthy, the scenery was SPECTACULAR - the wildflower display was unreal. And we saw deer and mountain goats. On the way back, we took the Aspen Grove trail as far as the saddle between Mt. Timpanogos and Roberts Horn. The part right below where it joins the trail to Timpooneke was VERY steep and filled with loose dirt and rock. Despite it being early August, the lower part of the trail (to the saddle) was still under snow. Once off that and back in the Timpanogos Basin, the trails were once again fine and beautiful.
