Ascent of Frary Peak on 2016-10-19Date: | Wednesday, October 19, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Frary Peak | Location: | USA-Utah | Elevation: | 6596 ft / 2010 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWe were staying in Park City, which was forecast for more cold and possibly more snow, so we headed down to SLC and out to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake, which is a State Park. After checking out the visitor center, we drove to the trailhead for Frary Peak, which is the highpoint of the island (not so much of an island now because the water level is down 9' exposing acres of lake bottom). Trail hike most of the way, but did the 3rd class summit ridge rather than the trail that skirted around it. A fire had gone through earlier this year. The summit ridge did not sustain fire damage (all rock) while the trail around had. Nice, expansive views across the Lake and SLC from the summit.
