Ascent Trip Report

I got up early as I wanted to start hiking as the sun came up to maximize my day. I was going to be driving alot this day as I had 4 highpoints on my schedule. The most difficult of which was going to be the hike up mount Frissell. It was also going to take the longest and i wanted to maximize my daylight.

The drive was not great getting there. mostly it was flat straight roads and I didn't really get lost per say but due to the terrain as I got closer I found that I was not making the correct turns on a few occasions. It only cost me maybe 10 minutes top.

I got to the parking lot just after sunrise and it was very chilly outside. But the sky was devoid of any clouds whatsover. It was going to be a wonderful day and I was going to get a pefect day for peak bagging. There was a small border marking between massachusets and conneticut and the trail starts on the massachusets side of the border. You then take the well marked trail up about 1/2 a mile before it starts a very aggressive route up Round mountain. At several points it was a scramble up the boulders but nothing that was no doable. The top of round mountain has several smaller routs that dead end here and there. Stay more to the north side/right side of the trail when ever possible. The summit of round mountain overlooks Frissell.

I took many pictures on the top of Round mountain as the sun was rising and there was just a great view from the top. The trail then goes down towards Frissel and then right back up the other side of Frissell. This was the easier part of the trail and again it was very well marked so hard to get lost. I Summited Frissel at about 1 hour into the hike and unfortuantly I hadn't made the summit as Frissell is a summit in Mass. You have to go south about 1/4 mile on the trail to get to the border of Mass and Conn which is on the side of Frissell. So silly get this fixed Conn and Mass you need to help a brother out and give Conn their own mountain summit.

The view was nice and I stop and took my pictures. It was cool I guess but I had a long day ahead of me and needed to get going. The trip back was much easier than the arrival as I knew where I was going though you need to be careful going back down the Round Mountain due to the steep East side of the mountain. I was done in under 2 hours and was rushing to get to my next high Point in Rhode Island
