Ascent Trip Report

On day one, Rick, Al, Dick and I backpacked from Lake Sabrina to Midnight Lake and set up camp. On day two, we dayhiked up to Blue Heaven Lake, then climbed up a sandy gulley to Darwin Col. From the col, we climbed up Darwin's northeast ridge to the base of a 4th class pitch located in a chimney. Steve Roper's "The Climbers Guide to the High Sierra" said that most of this route is class 3 with a "class 4 pitch"; however, none of us liked the look of the route, so we bailed and returned to our camp at Midnight Lake, then backpacked out to the car, making this a two day trip.
