Ascent Trip Report

I started off early, taking the road up from Summit Lake. I had planned on cutting off the road for a more direct approach, but I was having challenges with the altitude and appreciated the very gradual grade of the road. I also managed to see some mountain goats right by the road, which I would have missed. The road was an easy climb, and there were few cars on it at that hour. The trail from the "summit" parking lot to the real summit was also easy. I was surprised that there was no register (too many people?). It looked like there had been one as I saw half a register canister attached to the summit blocks.

To complete the trip, I returned via the northwest ridge and Mount Spaulding. Initially that trail was hard to keep, but the cairns (and a clear path) became more visible after the pass between the two mountains.
