Ascent Trip Report

Started too early at 2:00am. By the time I began climbing the talus slope too many variables came to bear. The moon dropped behind the ridge and it was really dark. A cold wind started up. My headlamp began to flicker. I had no spare lamp or batteries, forgot in car. My light jacket and hiking pants were fine while moving, but if I lost my lamp I could not move in pure darkness in the boulders and talus. I would freeze to death. Also the unusually large Mt. Lion I had passed ten minutes earlier was another variable. Rather than getting stranded with no light unable to move for 2+ hours and catching hypothermia......I returned to my vehicle.
