Ascent of Patton Knob on 2009-07-02| Date: | Thursday, July 2, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Patton Knob | | Location: | USA-North Carolina | | Elevation: | 6040 ft / 1840 m |
Ascent Trip ReportAnother easy peak. The summit is approximately 170' to the north of the MST. It's an easy climb and the summit is obvious. There is a large rock outcrop up top and with an odd summit marker. It looks very similar to most USGS survey markers, but this one was placed by Keen Survey Inc. There's also lots of ribbons and blazes marking a path that's been recently cut down the mountain's north slope. I'm guessing this heads down to the road that runs along the northeast side of the ridge. This is the same road that starts at Balsam Gap.
