Ascent of San Jacinto Peak on 2009-06-28
|Date:||Sunday, June 28, 2009|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||San Jacinto Peak|
| Elevation:||10839 ft / 3303 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI started out at 5:30 AM on this hike and was very glad I did - the heat in the sun, even in the morning, was quite intense. It also helped keep the crowds down - by the time of my descent, the trail was getting quite crowded. The hike itself was quite decent - the length made for usually very gentle slopes, and the ground was usually dirt - quite comfortable to the feet - except for towards the very top where the trail got rocky - up to bouldering for the final steps.
Several regulations are important to note-
1. In San Bernardino N.F., an "adventure pass" is needed to park anywhere in the forest, including trailheads. What they don't say is that the federal lands pass (used to be called the golden eagle passport) will also work, but you need to leave it in the windshield.
2. For at least this wilderness, wilderness permits are required EVEN FOR DAY TRIPS.
3. For the Devils Slide trail (the trail coming out of Humber Park), a special, limited in number, wilderness permit is required.
