Ascent Trip Report

Alarm rang at 3am didn't get out of bed till 4. On the road after oatmeal at 4:30am. Made the Guanella pass road at around 6:12, had to wait in line with three other vehicles until the light told us we could go down the one way road up to the parking lot. Awesome road, but completely torn up. Made trail head parking lot around 7am, hit the trail at 7:05 am, beginng of the hike was gorgeous. had to cross the river on two old spruce trees laid across, simply forded it coming back. Nice hike, snow didn't start until almost 13,000 ft. The rest of the way was minimal postholing, pretty solid snow and ice. Made summit at 10am. Stayed on summit looking at the sawtooth debating trying in until 10:40am. Decided to turn back because of the the amount of snow on the crux of the sawtooth. Glissaded, or walked down Mt. Bierstadt until the snow ran out and then talked to a woman and her dog for most the way back through the willows. Made my truck at around 1245 pm. Floored it down the road to beat the daily road closure. Pushed myself a little to hard at the end trying to beat the road closure and ended up after doing 60 down a bad dirt road puking all over after passing the road closure. All in all a great day.
