Ascent Trip ReportWhat was to be a 2-day run around the N/S loop on Mt Charleston - following hot-on-the-heels of a trip to Wheeler Peak (NV) - turned into a 1-day out-n-back on the NLT (lost a day due to Altitide sickness for one in the party... forcing re-write of the plans.)
Figured if we packed light... and pressed on hard... we might have a chance (counting on using the DTS to cut the distance..)
Unfortunately - we were moving slower than expecting... and the DTS seemed impassable (neither of us could see how to go at it... something seemed missing...) so we continued on the NL, cross the snow fields... missed a switchback... ended up on a scree-slope to hell... doubled back and started the last switchback approach up the east face.
Got to a point where we were @ the pre-set 'turn around' time and neither of us felt we had the additional 1 - 2 hours we figured it would take to make the top and either double back... or continue on around the SL.
So we bailed... went back along the NL... ending with what turned out ot be a 9 hr / 16 mile day (talk about tared!)
Will have to take care 'o this on another NV trip... (along with some other unfinished business!)
