Ascent Trip Report

To get to the trailhead, follow Charlie Winger's trip report. One correction: it is about 2 miles, not 7 miles, from highway 129 to the signed Beaver Pond overlook parking area. (That distance is given correctly in Charlie's trip report on the COHP Web site.)

I started out hiking the Kab-Ash Trail, following Charlie's directions. I took the right loop and followed it until it intersected a woods road. The trail was a bit rough and hard to follow in places. When I got to the road (which was still in use, as there were fresh tire tracks on it) I gave it a good look and it seemed to be going in the right direction. So I turned left and followed the road gently uphill to the tower, which sits on what appears to be the highest bedrock in the vicinity. It was much easier walking than the trail. So I followed it back out and it came out at the paved access road for the Ash River visitor's center. Then I had a half mile road walk back to my car. This is probably the same road that Bob Packard reported hiking.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize that I had a hard spiky object under my left big toe for my entire hike. This chewed a hole in the bottom of my toe and affected the rest of my trip. I didn't feel any pain as my diabetic neuropathy has destroyed all feeling in parts of the bottoms of my feet. Bummer!
