Ascent of Challenger Point on 1996-06-03| Others in Party: | Dad Dan Aaron | | Date: | Monday, June 3, 1996 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Challenger Point | | Location: | USA-Colorado | | Elevation: | 14081 ft / 4291 m |
Ascent Trip ReportMore difficult than expected due to bad route finding. We found ourselves in a cliff section not far below the summit. Manuevered around it. Saw the plaque at the summit commemorating the Space Shuttle Challenger. The hike was kind of long and hot, and steep. But the scenery was good at Willow Lake. Aaron and I were driven, as we combined this climb with Kit Carson. As I remember (which is not too well now) we camped at Willow Lake before climbing both summits on the second day.
