Ascent of Mount Yoran on 2008-08-30| Date: | Saturday, August 30, 2008 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Yoran | | Location: | USA-Oregon | | Elevation: | 7100 ft / 2164 m |
Ascent Trip ReportA nice hike in from to a typically pretty Divide Lake followed by a climb with a good mix of scrambling with some exposure - the gully and cols near the top would certainly be a challenge in anything but ideal conditions - not a good place to be without a helmet. Route: from the saddle between Yoran and 7138, crossed under the SW/left side of cliffs to a wide, steep gully (some loose), then scrambled up to a col at 11 o'clock. Crossed through col to NE side of main peak and traversed across steep slope with patches of loose scree, picking up climbers trail to summit. Did a little attempted routefinding on nearby Peak 7138 afterwards, but weather blew in and the low clouds/wind prevented any further exploring.
