Ascent of Mount Rogers on 2007-10-02| Date: | Tuesday, October 2, 2007 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Mount Rogers | | Location: | USA-Virginia | | Elevation: | 5729 ft / 1746 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI had been doing trail work with the Student Conservation Association during the previous month and the hike up to Mount Rogers was the reward after a long month of moving many rocks to complete equestrian trail erosional sites.
The day was sunny and we left the Scales at about 8 am. A few of the wild ponies were mulling about and after petting them we headed to the peak with blueberries in hand and mouth.
The vista at Mount Rogers is not the best. The hike along the way has some good spots where you can see for miles on a clear day.
This hike is worth it if you are in the area and you want to see some wild ponies. Extra bonus if it is blueberry season.
