Ascent Trip Report

Left the car at 8am on Islip Saddle and headed south on the PCT. Temperature was 66 degrees, winds lite from the south at 3-5 mph, skies all blue with a few high level cirrus. Past Little Jimmy campground to Windy Gap. Crowded trail, Saturday's in the San Gabriel's. Up the less crowded Mt. Islip summit trail and on to the top.
Reached the top at 11:00am. As soon as I got there, standing in the footings of an old fire tower, I spotted a fire about ten to fifteen miles due south of the peak. Looking further south the Palos Verde ridge stood above the marine layer, and beyond that, the tops of Catalina Island. Winds were blowing south off that marine layer 5-10 mph, with a gust of 13.4 mph recorded. The temperature in that wind on top was 64 degrees. Cool...
Left the top at at 11:45am, fire was getting bigger, down through Windy Gap and past the Boy Scouts camped at Little Jimmy's. On the hazy trail out of the wind, temperatures were 72 to 76 degrees. Hot at times...
By the time I reached the car at 1:30pm things were getting smokey, temperature was 80 degrees and my hike was 7 miles with 1600 feet of elevation gain.
