Ascent of Big Cataloochee Mountain on 2009-05-16| Date: | Saturday, May 16, 2009 | | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | | Peak: | Big Cataloochee Mountain | | Location: | USA-North Carolina | | Elevation: | 6155 ft / 1876 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThis bushwhack wasn't too bad. About 100' past a rocky stream head straight up the mountain. After a ways you may see some orange ribbons marking the way but you don't have to follow them since it's rather straightforward and not too dense. There's more than one marked way up and the way farthest east seems to be easiest to follow (it's a bit more well-worn). The summit (or where most people think the summit is) is marked by several ribbons/tags. It's a .5 mile bushwhack that climbs 500'.
