Ascent Trip Report

Patty, Ava and I headed for Washington Pass on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend since the weather forecast wasn't great for most other places in the Cascades... Monday seemed like it would work to give Silver Star a shot. We took our time on Sunday driving over to Mazama followed by the typical stop at one of our favorites, the Mazama Store. After some coffee and food we decided to check out the Fun Rock crag just down the street, (our first time there) to kill some time. We ended up camping at Klipchuck CG and didn't have to much trouble finding a spot, probably given the forecast. We woke up early on Monday and headed for the Silver Star Creek TH. We were the only car at the trail head and didn't see anyone on the creek approach all day. I'd climbed Silver Star via the creek in 2013 so it was a repeat for me. We ran into a few other parties who'd approached via the Burgundy Col route, which seems to be the standard route these days? There was some fresh snow and rime ice on the summit block so crampons were useful. Patty did some exploring on the summit block while Ava and I waited, then we eventually followed up. Ava busted out a few doggy 4th class moves and we all made it to the summit. Back down the "glacier" to the car, 10 hours C2C. Stopped at Mondo for dinner.
