Ascent of Mount Craig on 2009-05-16
|Date:||Saturday, May 16, 2009|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Motorized Transport to Trailhead:||Car|
| Location:||USA-North Carolina|
| Elevation:||6647 ft / 2026 m|
Ascent Trip ReportIt would have been preferable to have climbed Mt Mitchell on foot first, and then do the trail to Mt Craig. However, thunderstorms were predicted and I did not want to be caught out in those. So, I drove to the Mt Mitchell parking lot and then hiked over to Mt Craig. From the parking lot's N end, you descend to about 6,330 ft and then climb to the summit. Then, you return the same way. Clouds were coming in as I walked back.
Nice guide book is "Hiking the Blue Ridge Parkway" by Randy Johnson.
