Ascent Trip Report

Took Jones Ferry Road south out of Carrboro. Not too long after passing by Old Greensboro Road at the signal. I turned left onto Maxeben Road, a dirt road suitable for travel by passenger cars. After a short distance I made a right turn continuing on Maxeben. Goah Way continued on straight. After the right hand turn Maxeben climbs up towards Macauley. Just before its end Macauley bends right and descends towards a home. A grassy lane continues straight. i parked near this lane. A sign of sorts, black netting, hung from trees with large numbers 153 stenciled in white on it.

I hiked up the lane and passed a post with the letters MCM. The lane narrowed to a single track and I followed as it angled up towards the Macauley ridge. The trail eventually disappeared and I simply switched back towards the high point where the remains of a small building, bricks and beams, occupied the summit. I took a more direct approach down back to car.

This is a quick hike with relatively easy trailhead access. No summit views, but the hike thru the forest is pleasant.
