Ascent Trip Report

Hiked a section of the GR531 along the crest of the Vosges from the Col de Bramont to La Grand Ventron and back along the Route Forestier on the West side. The summit of La Grand Ventron is a superb viewpoint, with a large doughnut shaped viewpoint indicator. It was too hazy to see the Alps, but most of the major peaks in the Southern half of the Vosges were on display. The GR531 is in general quite a good path, albeit with some muddy sections and a lot of fallen trees to climb over or round. The charming Chaume de Ventron restaurant offers lunch, coffee and beer at the halfway point for those in need.
