Ascent Trip Report

Since we didn't have an appropriate vehicle for the rough road leading up to the base of East Ord, we parked along Camp Rock Road and followed an abandoned jeep trail directly toward the mouth of the canyon. Instead of taking the route recommended by the DPS guide, we followed the road to its end, where there are signs of mining activity from the past, and then continued hiking west until we hit a north/south ridge that brought us just a few hundred yards from the summit. After a brief descent we reached the saddle directly below the rocky summit and from there it was a fun scramble to the top. This route definitely added some distance to the hike but because there were only a couple steep sections, it made for a pretty easy ascent. We returned via the rocky canyon that descends rather quickly down the south side of the mountain.
