Ascent Trip Report

Started at the Paso Picacho picnic area. Normally costs $8 to park here, but I have a California Explorer pass, so have access to all of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park's campgrounds, etc. From the parking area I took the Azalea Glen trail, which is a single track, mostly flat dirt trail through a somewhat wooded area. It added about 1.5 miles to my overall distance, but I preferred a dirt trail to taking the fire road all the way up. At Azalea Springs I hooked up with the Fern Flat Fire Road, which took me to the Lookout Fire Road. Turned right and headed up the rest of the way to the peak. Views are great, and I particularly loved that this area offered trees and the wonderful smell of pine.
