Ascent Trip Report

Parked in the parking lot on a beautiful day, so I had to "share" the mountain with a bunch of people. Because of this, I was parked a ways up the hill from the trailhead, almost to the helicopter landing zone.

Proceeded up the trail. I thought I saw the peak for King Phillip Mountain, so I bushwacked my way to what I thought was the summit. Looking at the plot of the GPS data though, I didn't quite hit it. Maybe next time.

There were beautiful views of the Farmington River valley in Simsbury looking toward the west, but the shooting range at the bottom of the mountain was a bit disturbing.

Because of the time of year, the Tower was closed. I walked past the tower to the picnic area near the CT Police radio tower. According to the highlighted circle, this is where the highpoint was, but I couldn't tell if it is really higher than the area around the tower.

Proceeded on with the goal of going to the Science Center, but ran out of time before having to turn back.

On the way down, I took a trail that leads straight from the switchback down to the helicopter landing area. This is an alternative approach, but is much steeper than the main trail.
