Ascent Trip Report

Made the ascent from the seldom-frequented east side. The road to the trailhead requires a sterdy 4WD due to creek crossing and rocky grades. Also, the road remains closed off about a mile from the Gardiner trailhead. The trail starts off clear but becomes very difficult to find. Fires, fallen trees, and ashy soil have obliterated the pathway between 7800' and 8400'. Instead of trail hunting the Doc and I went VFR toward the summit where we met up with the well maintained Super Tr. The views are outstanding from the trail and conflagration left behind a very unique almost moonlike landscape. The peak itself provides a clean 360 view.
