Ascent Trip ReportAfter coming back down the big pile of rocks that makes up the summit ridge of Mt. Alice Rawson, John, Ben, and I walked across a couple hundred yards of tundra to climb up the even bigger, steeper, pile of even bigger rocks that makes up the summit of Mt. Townsend. Many of the boulders were several feet across, with gaps between to match. The rocks were firmly in place, though, and it was fun to climb them. Before long we were atop the narrow summit with the stone marker. Once again, we enjoyed a 360-degree view, with mountains all around us, with brilliant blue sky above. We enjoyed a snack and prepared to say good-bye for at least awhile -- I was going to "stay high" and cross the col to the nearby Abbott Peak and "SW Abbott", while John and Ben were going to head back across the Wilkinson Creek valley to our camp, pack up, and head down to Thredbo. Before long, we headed down to the col and split up -- I kept going straight across and up the relatively easy slope of Abbott -- they headed down into the valley.
