Ascent Trip ReportI went up along the main tiger mountain road which is closed to vehicles during the winter. Snow on the ground starting around 1500 ft (trailhead @ 1400 ft). At the lower elevations the snow was 6-8" and pretty slushy where hikers had packed down a trail. As we gained altitude the snow depth increased and the packed down path became less reliably packed down. By the time we reached the Crossover Road intersection (@ 2400') snow depth was 2-3', increasing to 4-5' (estimated) close to the summit. Why I did not bring my snowshoes I do not know. We had a bunch of rain in Seattle in the past week, so I should have been expecting fresh snow on the mountain. At any rate, it wasn't too bad following along the tracks of previous hikers, as long as you don't mind sinking thigh deep every once in a while. The weather was outstanding - close to 60F in the afternoon, sunny and clear. Great view of Rainier to the south. Very quiet on the mountain, once we got "around the corner" and didn't hear the road noise.
