Ascent Trip ReportDid this hike from the much less-crowded east face using the Gardner Canyon Tr - Super Tr - Crest Tr route. Definitely need a high-clearance vehicle for the last few miles of Santa Rita Rd to get to the trailhead. The road is closed about 0.9 miles from the true trailhead. Once on the trail, this was a straightforward hike on a well-maintained trail until about mile 2, when extensive fire damage and virtually no trail maintenance or markers made it impossible to stay on course. Prof Trousdale and I ended up giving up on the Gardner Canyon Tr and just hiking straight toward the summit until we intersected the Super Tr, bushwhacking along the way. Once on the Super Tr, the rest of the way is clear-cut. Great 360 deg view from the summit. We were hoping for a glimpse of the Gulf of CA, but there was too much haze and dust. We managed to stay on the trails on the way down, but the Garnder Canyon Tr is a mess and barely discernable for about a 1 mile stretch just below the Super Tr.
