Ascent Trip ReportFrom Yreka I drove west for 9.7 miles on the Greenhorn Rd, turned right on FSR 45N49, which follows the Deadwood Creek drainage on a narrow track to connect in 4.4 miles with a better dirt road, FSR 45N28, at the top of the drainage. From this junction it is 2.9 miles to the open area at Baldy Gap. From Baldy Gap it is an easily ascended cross-country route through the forested and open slopes to the top of Indian Creek Baldy. No surprises--about 900' gain and 1 mile. I spotted a USGS benchmark--the remains of a red can register--some old wood perhaps from survey work. On the small summit rockpile was a stone with the carved inscription "Will Rader 6-8-1870"--a fake or for real? Good views.
