Ascent Trip Report

We hiked up from the east side of the mountain. We started from the 4X4 road since it looked a bit too menacing for the 4 Runner. It was a really good hike with great weather however; it was quite long and challenging for a day hike. The trail provides great views of the landscape off to the east opposite the city but from the peak there is little to see due to the low grade and large conifers. The last 3 and change miles back to the trailhead was finished under the stars. The mountain blocks nearly all the light pollution from Tucson allowing for a great observation of the night sky.
