Ascent Trip ReportWest of Greenfield turn off CA 89 on Old Haun Rd. After 2 miles turn right on Homer Lake Rd (FSR 28N38) and follow this good dirt road 5 miles to the Greenville Saddle. Turn left here and follow FSR 28N60 for 3 miles, then a sharp left on FSR 28N60A for 2 miles on a somewhat rough road to its end near Homer Lake (12 miles from CA 89). The XC route to Keddie Peak proceeds through moderate brush up a steep draw between two rock outcrops. Traces of more than one use trail were helpful in places. On reaching the crest, head west, keeping below the dark rocky summit ridge, then easily scrambling up to the obvious HP at the western end of the ridge. The metal register box contained the register book left by Richard Carey and Gail Hanna on their visit here in October 2004. They were the only "usual suspects" among other visitors who had signed in. A fine perch here with views of Lassen Peak, Lake Almanor, Mountain Meadows Reservoir, and Indian Valley, I estimate the hike was less than 2 miles RT with about 800' of gain.
