Ascent Trip ReportShasta Bally doesn't rate high in prominence, but it is an irresistible, highly visible peak rising to the west of Redding. From the Visitor Center at Whiskeytown Lake drive 3.2 miles, then turn left and go 2.6 miles to Sheep Camp and the start of the 5.6-mile Shasta Bally Rd. This is a steep, 4WD road, not especially difficult but requiring caution. The road tops off just above the communications facility. I couldn't locate a precise HP as I walked 1/2 mile or so through mixed sand patches and thick, low growing manzanita that cover the nearly flat area. No evidence of a register or benchmark. The view does not disappoint---a very prominent Bully Choop Mountain, the Trinity Alps, and the Central Valley.
