Ascent Trip ReportThe spur road for Bald Mountain is about 10 miles east of Sherman Pass on the Sherman Pass Rd. Follow it for 1.7 miles to park at a locked gate and walk the remaining 0.3 mile to Bald Mountain and Bald Mountain L.O. Unexpectedly fine views: Farewell Gap, the Kaweahs, Mt. Whitney, Mt. Langley, Olancha Peak, Telescope Peak (!), Owens Peak, Crag Peak, Sherman Peak, and the jumbled outcroppings in the Dome Land Wilderness. According to Carol, the L.O. guardian, San Gorgonio Mountain is visible on the clearest of days. The Bald Mountain Botanical Area, which surrounds the L.O. tower, is described as a "metasedimentary island in a sea of granite," and is home to 100 plant species
