Ascent Trip Report

This portion of the trip is rated at 2 plus because of the climb down off the summit of Black Dome which was tricky to get around a rock wall. It was also slippery due to ice in several places.

The approx 1.5 mile hike on the Black Dome Range trail over the Back Dome summit from Thomas Cole involved about 500 ft. of climbing, but from then on it was all downhill to the intersection with the Black Dome Mt. trail. The hike down to Big hollow was difficult because the fallen leaves were slippery.

The summit of Black Dome is appropriate from the fir/balsam on top. Good views too. I met one hiker coming up the Range Trail opposite in direction to my hike. He was the only other pewrson on the Mt. I saw.

I finished up by completeing the loop to Barnum Rd. by taking Big Hollow Rd. the approx 5.9 miles back to my car through Maplecrest. Total mileage was about 12.
