Ascent Trip Report

Leaving our Hotel in Grenoble before dawn, we were treated to a colourful sunrise as we arrived in the small village of Gresse-en-Vercors about 45 minutes later. Unfortunately this was a sign that the weather would deteriorate, and soon the tops were shrouded in cloud that didn't lift all day, although there were only very brief periods of light drizzle, not enough to really justify stopping to put on waterproofs. Turning west from the village led to the small ski centre at La Ville with a huge amount of parking. From there the ascent was very simple, following the path up the pass, then turning left to follow it along the ridge to the summit with its multiple cairns and shelters. It looks steepish on the map but appreances are deceptive and, assuming no avalanche risk, the path would probably make a good non-technical snowshoe ascent in the winter. Descent by the same route since the weather wasn't great and back to the pub to witness Scotland being robbed of a rugby world cup semi-final appearance by an completely inept referee.
