Ascent Trip ReportWhat can I say about Signal Mountain? It represents my entire adult life. It is the namesake of Signal Mountian Lodge where I spent the summers of my 20s. I met my wife there, and most of my really good friends. It's role in my life could not be exaggerated.
The mountain itself is spectacular in a subdued and subtle way. It sits in the middle of the northern end of Jackson Hole about 800 feet above the surounding flats. There is a trail to the summit as well as a paved road. Over the course of many summers there I managed to attain the summit by about as many different ways as you can. I hiked it, biked it, drove it, motorcycled it, you name it. I was up there in sun, and storm; in daylight and darkness; in crowds and all alone; before the sunrise, and after the sunset. It also represents my first true mountain summit ever (May 1990).
I probably went to the summit of that mountain dozens and dozens of times. I knew every bend and bump in the road. I knew and loved every inch of it...One day I hope to return...
