Ascent Trip Report

Getting to the trailhead was easy enough. The main forest road was mostly paved then great dirt. The secondary road to the trailhead required high clearance, but was otherwise easy. And it was only about a mile, so passenger cars could park at the junction and have only a slightly longer hike.

From the trailhead, there is a sign advising ATVs (technically motorized vehicles less than 50" wide) are allowed, but presumably that is only for a mile or so. After that the "road" ends. For a trail that appears on the maps, I was rather disappointed with how unmaintained it was, starting with right after the road ends. We found trails on both sides of the creek. That said, the creek bed was dry and usually wasn't bad for hiking either. The tough part was finding where to leave the wash and head up toward the ridge. We missed and turned up too early, but were able to rejoin it further upslope.

Once on the ridge, the trail came and went until around 9000' where it appeared to disappear completely.

While there was some bushwhacking, mostly when looking for the trail, it was not particularly troublesome.

The views from the summit were really incredible.
