Ascent Trip Report

Did this one as part of a backpacking trip along the Appalachian Trail over a 3 day weekend in January, 2009. I stayed at the Rutherford Shelter after snowshoeing in to it from the road. The temperature dipped to 7 degrees F overnight, which was colder than I expected. I then made my way up to the summit and back to my car along the AT. 2 days of my 3 day weekend freezing my ass off at High Point was enough for me. Elevation gained is from the Rutherford Shelter (where I spent the night) along the AT south of Rt. 23.

I generally attempt the easy walk-up peaks in the dead of winter from miles away to really earn them. High Point was no exception.
