Ascent Trip Report

Obtained our free wilderness permit at the Big Oaks Flat Ranger station the day prior at 11AM as required. Backpacked up to the backpackers camp at May Lake and set up camp. Had lunch down at the lake and after eating my hat blew off into lake (no swimming) and was heading out so I quickly waded in up to my waist to fetch it, lol. After drying off we hiked up to Mt. Hoffman with some fun class 3 scrambling at the final summit push. Found the Station benchmark and both Reference marks as well as the register. Took in the amazing views and had some snacks. Left the summit to go cross country over to the summit visible from the lake so we could get the view down onto the lake. Climbed class 3-4 on the north end to gain the summit and on top we found the Mt. Hoffman Azimuth benchmark at N37.84611 W119.50390. Score! Hiked back down just after sunset and met a nice couple and shared their fire and had dinner. Awesome way to spend my Bday! Completed the track the next morning when we backpacked to the parking lot.
