Ascent Trip Report

With limited time available, I went up the nearby "Duke of Kent", USGS Bandera quad, 4840'+, 440P. It turned out to be more challenging than I expected.

Some trip report links are located at:

I doubted I could get up the quickest route to the summit, a steep gully, without both an ice axe and crampons. The snow left in the gully appeared rock hard, so I went south of the summit, up and over the ridge, then back north on the east side of the peak until the terrain became just short of a cliff to enable a scramble up it. No register. I was rushing all day to beat the rush hour traffic home. Now I'm paying for it with sore legs, but that's OK.

It was nice to find such a fun challenge that was close to home.
