Ascent Trip Report

We had a perfect winter day for a hike to Wright and Algonquin. Fresh snow (one person had broken the trail ahead of us), blue skies and not much wind. Took the Van Hoevenberg-Algonquin-Wright trails from Adirondak Loj. Nice trails - some good steep sections but nothing awful. The open summit rocks of Wright were completely encased in ice. Tricky going even with crampons, especially on some of the big slabs - the ice axe finally got some use. Views of the High Peaks from the summit were fantastic. Algonquin was socked inside a single low cloud when we were on Wright, but that had blown off by the time we made it over to Algonquin for another clear summit view.

A great pair of summits for the winter. We'll have to come back in summer sometime.
