Ascent Trip Report

Departed from Kite Lake. Took the West Slopes trail which climbs along a gully between Bross and South Bross. For about a mile this trail stays on the South Bross side of the gully. When the trail turned left and crossed the gully I continued on the right side of the gully using a fainter trail thru talus and scree. Note: there is a trail sign marking this turn, but it's been toppled.

I continued on this talus/scree trail almost all the way to the Bross/South Bross saddle. When this trail also made a turn to the left for Bross I went off trail and labored up another 100 vertical feet of loose stuff to get to the saddle. Right after the saddle there's a bump on the way to South Bross. I elected to go over the top while two goats coming from South Bross took a lower way around it. Shortly thereafter I was on the high point of South Bross and then continued on
to X13899. From X13899, South Bross looks much more impressive than it does from the Bross saddle.

From TH to saddle both coming and going is tedious. Views however are spectacular. The ridge hike is easy with 360 views. The last bit up X13899 is along a narrowing ridge. A bit airy, but not exceeding class 2.
