Ascent Trip ReportStarted hiking at 5:45 AM with my son Ryan. Hiked through aspen forest, then through evergreens, and then above treeline. There was some fresh snow above treeline and over 6 inches near the summit. Very pretty. Nearby mountains were white with snow. Reached the summit at 10:45 AM (Ryan at 9:50). Very cold and windy at the top. Met 4 others at the summit at about the same time (3 from the North Mt. Elbert Trail). Met several hikers on the way down, but it really wasn't that crowded. It was my first time in Colorado and I really enjoyed the scenery in the state. Leadville, Twin Lakes, and Granite are cool towns. Had filet mignon at Quincy's in Leadville. Excellent. HP #20.
