Ascent Trip Report

6-8-2015 we chose a higher TH than other reports,
at 39.7243,-114.8814. You can just manage to get
your 4wd off the jeep road here, or slightly further up the
hill. Make a rising traverse through the Aspen to
pick up an animal trail at 39.7240,-114.8795
and follow it to the bench at 39.7285,-114.8791.
Then head north of the Mountain Mahogany
to 39.7313,-114.8771 and cross
the drainage at 39.7327,-114.8792. You can follow
animal trails for much of this route.

Next climb the ridge west of the drainage until you
intersect Dean's route. The register is at spot
3095 (metric). Some entries mentioned a contender
bump located to the SW. We went to the contender
and it sighted a bit higher than the spot elevation
with an inexpensive plastic level.

On the drive out we went back to the junction
at 39.7280,-114.8924, then 4wd to the saddle
at the head of Log Canyon, 39.7061,-114.8946,
then down the canyon and to the highway.

This might be a faster route for 4wd from Ely
than going through Cherry Creek.
