Ascent Trip Report

My initial plan was to bag some peaks south of Stevens Pass, but at the pass it was raining and didn't look like it was going to end anytime soon. I came up with a backup plan to hike up to Icicle Ridge and headed back down to Leavenworth.

Icicle Ridge: I reached the Fourth of July Creek trailhead at 8:00 and started the long climb up to the ridge. The trail is in good shape, although it is a bit overgrown with shrubs near the top. The numerous switchbacks make the climb much easier. I reached the Icicle Ridge Trail in 2 hr 10 min and headed left. I followed the signed trail to the Lookout Site. The summit is composed of large rock slabs and I did not take the easiest route. You want to follow the footpath to the right of the summit block, then stay to the right (up-valley/NW side). Go up the rock ramp to the right of the summit and you'll see an iron bar coming out of the rock that you can use to step up to the flat summit area. There are fantastic views looking farther up Icicle Creek and to the Enchantments. Unfortunately, it was really windy and cold, so I was not able to stay long. I took the easier route down and took a break on the lee side.

Ice Bridge Bump: After a break near the old lookout I headed southeast on Icicle Ridge Trail. There were some nice wildflowers in the meadow areas. The descent into the Bridge Creek saddle is a little rutted, but nothing major. After climbing out of the saddle I followed the ridge to the right out to Ice Bridge Bump. It is open country with just short grass, so it is an easy hike. The 'bump' area full of large boulders. Two looked like they could be the highest, so I climbed up both. I'm pretty sure that the one farthest out is the highest though. After a snack break I returned the way I came, and descended Fourth of July Creek Trail.
