Ascent Trip Report

SUGAR SHACK/OUTSTANDING PANORAMA

Trail nb from south side CIME parking ...... 2km, 1 hour RT..

The family (the kids Michael, Linda and Julie; and Rose and I) came here for the very first time to climb this mountain, followed by lunch at La Goudrelle "during sugaring-off time". We would come back numerous of times, this time of the year ..... a great tradition for many Quebeckers.

The summit of Mont Saint Gregoire, the smallest of all the Monteregian Hills, offers an outstanding/the best 360 degree panorama of all the Hills. On a clear day you can see NY's Adirondacks and VT's Mount Mansfield. The open rocky summit, with a communication Tower to one side, has a number of plaques pointing/identifying the different mountains in the horizon.

The TH for CIME Haut Richelieu Nature Park, Saint Gregoire is open year round with the entrance at the south side of the mountain ..... #16 chemin du Sous-Bois, 250M north of the intersection Rang de la Montagne/chemin du Sous-Bois. The 2014 entrance fee was 4.50$, trail maps are available.

The climb is moderately steep on excellent maintained trails. As is the case in most government run parks, the trail design is way over done ..... a lot of unnecessary railings/steps .....typical government waste. I am of the opinion that the trail designers are not real trail users.
