Ascent Trip Report

Was able to drive up the old mine road to the start of the trail, see a steep abandoned 4x4 track heading uphill. Actually a pretty nice boot track heading up for 1,500', lots of flagging. Must be for hunters. In upper basin, decided to approach from the left, some good scramble moves to the summit. Found a brass register but no lid. Two parties from last year. Then headed out the ridge to the true McClain. Pretty brushy and steep. Intimidating face, we headed around left (south) and scouted a bit, finally decided on a sketchy seam that had cedar trees about 40' up, able to climb steep seam, pull up by cedar branches and reached the summit. Two arm rappels back down. Nice views, haven't been in this area before. Descended to saddle, then traversed over to route we came up without troubles, found the flagging and hit the boot path again. Left cars at 8:15, summit at 11:30, summit of McClain at 1:50, back to cars at 4:00.
